Left mine on and just tapped off everything, cant even tell its not factory. just make sure you add at least 6 coats at a very light spray so you don't get any running or you may have to do some trimming at the bottom of the letters from pooling.
First time didn't look so good, too heavy spray, pooled and ran down the bottom, had some run lines in the lettering, so let it dry, pulled it off and lightened it up next time and now looks like it was done by the manufacturer.

Removing before wrapping is how i've seen the pros do it and it makes sense, you'll have that much of an easier time getting a quality job done. As you can imagine getting in all those small spots with the original finish hidden can be tricky.

********UPDATE********

I have the letters off! It wasn't even actually all that difficult. Once you get the grill off, there are 4 of those disc retainer clips that hold on the RAM center portion with a thin frame. With those 4 clips, there are two 8mm screws on either end. once all of the clips and the screws are out, there is one press clip on the bottom of the center portion and two on the top. the two on the top are a little tedious to get to if you don't have barbie fingers. After that center portion is removed, there are a total of 11 more of the disc retainer clips. Now there are little square almost foam pieces under ever one of those clips....I would recommend replacing them when you reinstall. Those are the only reason I was able to get a good enough grip on the disc clips with a pair of locking forceps. Each letter has the following number of clips:

R - 4
A - 3
M - 4

I took quite a few pics and even a video of removing the clips and will post up shortly once it is all dipped and reinstalled.

Thanks.

Removed RAM Letters from Grill

Well, Here are the photos. I identified the clips from the backside. Also, threw a couple of pics of coats 1 and 2. Coat 3 is drying as I type this. I plan to spray at least 5 coats....may do 6 for added protection since it is a magnet for bugs.

Thanks for posting up a visual guide! trying to tape plastic or newspaper around the emblem is a pain when you want to plasti dip it.

runny dips can be caused by a lot of factors; high humidity, high temperatures, windy conditions, direct sun light, or they just sprayed with the can too close to the surface. Great thing about plasti dip is how easy it is to remove and try again.
