Maybe a dumb question, but is there a way to just turn off the radio? I know you can mute the volume and turn off the screen. Is that it? My wrangler would power off and just display the time.

Personally I'd like a dark screen automatically when I light up the truck, not a lit startup screen asking for me to agree to something (can't recall what it says at the moment) followed by a bright display full of stuff. And I'd like the screen to go truly dark when I hit "screen off" and not the dim gray that's still fairly bright at night.

I've tinkered with the stereo, and varnerme is right, holding down the power does nothing for me (2016 8.4). I did figure out one little trick, if you turn the dimmer control one click to the left (just under full brightness), the NAV map switches to "Night" mode. Not sure why that isn't an option in the NAV menu.

I can mute the radio but if I get a call or even a text the radio is back on. As in no longer muted. My 14 sport didn't do that. very annoying. Anyone else have this happen?

When I get a call or text, my music stays muted, only if I had it muted prior to the call.

That doesn't work on my Rebel.

Took delivery Friday and can now confirm the "hold the power button" suggestion does not work like it does in the Journey with similar radio.

I do have a button to turn off the screen, but this likely isn't the solution to the OP.

Sounds like something they should include in a software update but who knows if they're listening to us.

I suppose they may be able to do this with a software update, however I spent quite a while looking at what is exposed in the head unit and there is a lot of functionality there. It looks to be highly integrated with the EVIC/DID and a few body modules via the main CPU. I would have to guess that the head unit needs to remain on so it communicates with the BUS and manages settings and the climate stuff and why it can't be completely shut off.

I suppose that makes sense. But they should allow the "screen off" function to persist. And they really really really need to get rid of that intro screen that tells me to abide by traffic laws and practice safe sex and all. And wants my affirmation.
