Cold start, high pitch squeal!
On cold nights that aren't extremely cold, I don't bother with the block heater, but some mornings I hear a high pitch squealing when it starts... water pump?

Ok, so two jokers... nobody in Canada having any unusual sounds on cold morning starts?
mine does that too. only when it's really cold and vehicle has been sitting over night. i thought i had an issue but dealership said that's "normal." when it makes the high pitch squeal/screech noise, mine only does it for like 5 seconds or so.
"Normal", ok, but I'm just curious where it is or what is causing it. If it's just a belt, fine, but if it's the water pump or something that over time will cause damage I'd like to know. I guess for now I'll plug in the block heater more often, so my neighbors and I don't have to hear that every morning.
Mine does the same thing every morning, even if the temp only gets down to 4 or 5 Celsius at night. Sure would like to know what it is.
It could just be the tensioner. Serpentine belt might be slipping slightly as it's trying to spin up all the add-on devices: alternator, a/c, water pump, etc. Might be that the tensioner needs a slight adjustment. It's supposed to prevent slipping.
Mine does it as well. Sounds like belt or maybe fan clutch
I just got mine back today for the axle recall. I pointed out the high pitch noise in the mornings and they replaced the belt and have a new bearing on order for the alternator but now I'm pissed cause on my way home I'm noticing a rubbing sound coming from my newly replaced axle parts? **** I hate recalls! Back I go again Monday!!!!!
Had the same thing, in my case they forgot to top up the dif fluid. I'm now going through the process of collecting all my paperwork and moving on to another dealership. I can't trust a shop that doesn't know what transfer case I have or argues about a serious problem with a rear end before even driving it.I just got mine back today for the axle recall. Go back as soon as possible and demand the rear be checked and document the cause with Ram and the dealer.... I hope you don't get treated the same as I was.
I just dropped it off this morning and they called me back an hour later to pick it up. They told me that a bearing has to be ordered and that I'll need to drop it again in a few days. Not happy at all to driving it around the way it is but they say it's ok, have my doubts. As far as the high pitch noise in morning start ups, now their ordering a new alternator and belt and also have to wait for those. I'm a firm believer in if it ain't broke don't fix it and am really regretting bringing it in for the axle recall. They also ordered a part for the sunroof recall and am thinking twice about letting them do that since mine does not leak at all at this point. So far I'm not impressed at all!
How did it turn out? Did you let them change the sunroof parts? Did the new alternator cure the chirps? I've now got a small bird under my hood too, middle of summer in a brand new Rebel at a red light and it sounds like I'm driving a frickin 87 ford fiesta. So disappointed. I love my Rebel, but dissatisfied with its build quality.
